you use chroma key, and select the colour white or use the eye dropper on the back-ground.

Yes that will indeed do. Zac, it either seems like ulead is the same as after effects and premiere pro or you have been checkin up on the forums. NICE WORK!!! (no sarcasm wat so ever)

just luma key it out. You are not exactly telling us what software you have... Be a bit more specific. If you have premiere pro, go into effects window, drop down the keying menu and drag luma onto your clip. Experiment with the settings until you get the desired result.

I have adobe premiere and AE, i tried the luma key and its not working for a black background

Screen or Multiply on the blending settings, the adjust the brightness and contrast

you don't need any of this adobe AE rollocks, like bocca said, use the screen on the transparency filter!!
