Laptop Spec for Editing

Anyone know what i should be looking for in a laptop to ensure it can edit and encode to atleast DVD quality.

well for minimum i would suggest the following

1.8 GHz
60 GB Hard Drive (80 GB Recommended)
512 MB RAM (1 GB Recommended but not necessary)
Some sort of 128 MB Graphics card (Usually comes standard now)
Firewire card (IEEE 1394)

that is the minimum that i recommend for a laptop. but it also depends on your budget, because if you have the funds to upgrade all of those then do not hesitate. Though i do not have a laptop i have
2.8 GHz
250 GB, 120 GB, 60 GB external Hard Drives
2 GB RAM
128 MB Radeon 9800 Pro

but to get that in a laptop would be quite pricey and you obviously can't put 3 internal hard drives in a laptop.

what is your budget?

The budget - well currently its flexible around the Ã‚Â£1000 mark.

I see a lot of laptops with on board graphics, shared system memory... that cant be good for video editing can it?

I posted it in the computer section originally thinking that was where it should go. I then saw this the video editing forum and saw someone else with a specification inside...

Didnt know which was the right one to have it posted in... So it kind of ended up in both.

i am selling sony laptops that are great for video editing.
