Hi, smokeythebear. Have you heard about 'Model Guns'. They're full size replicas that produce smoke, sound and eject a spent shell for each shot. They fieldstrip and function just like the real thing bit they're quite expensive though. It's main advantage is that there are loads more varients than blank firers.

RE: blank firing guns
Model Gun Company is a BAD choice for the amatuer filmmaker. You will end up with very expensive, nice looking guns, that sound and look like cr** when fired. They aren't designed for functionality. You would be far better off buying a real gun and blank adapting it. Probably cheaper, too.
You can find Airsoft guns that have a simulated recoil, and some even have a look-alike casing ejection system.

Model Guns are actually a very good choice when making a movie. First of all the fact that they do not produce aloud bang is very good. it atracts less attention than firing blanks, the sound will be addes later anyway. Second of all, they are a lot safer than blank firers, because the muzzle flash is not as violent so they are safer when handled and when fired nearby actors. \third of all they are used by the hongkong movie industry for years. In fact, most of the early \john Woo films made use of modelguns. Modelguns also come in full auto, so when you buy a thompson .45 machinegun as a modelgun you can actually shoot it full auto, see the smoke, the movement and shell flying out. It's far far better than adding muzzleflashes afterwards, wich most of the time look really crappy(as you see a lot in movies made by forummembers). I'd go for modelguns anytime. only drawback is that they are relatively expensive compared to airsoft guns. check modelguns.co.uk they have a wonderfull collection.

You do of course realize that all the guns in the lobby scene of the first Matrix (At least the pistols) were replicas ( some of them rubber) and that almost all the muzzle flashes were added later due to the danger of firing blanks in such close proximity of people. Besides, anyone who is at all competent and has access to decent sound effects and editing software can do just fine with something as simple as airsoft guns. Besides, the human eye barely registers a single or even just a couple of frames. Do not be afraid of the power of suggestion. If you have the budget, go for Modelguns. If you don't, go to your local sports shop and drop ten to twenty bucks on a pos airsoft and a dollar can of cheap matte spray paint and a can of krylon semi-gloss scratch-resistant finish. works like a charm. And if you want the shell ejection, it isn't much harder to do later either.
