fake skinned arm?

Post by dmosher »

I am making a crusified guy on a scarecrow rig, who' right arm has been skinned, leaving only meat, bones and gore behind, especially on the hand portion. I have a real skeleton arm thats wired well together.

Any input on what to cover it with would be useful. I need to give the impression of shredded muscle, fat and ligaments.

Thanks,

D

Why don't you try some home made stuff like this..

You can add coloring to match skin tone..all you have to do is make a sh*t load of it!

this can be usefull.

but personnally, for such a thing, I would visit my local butcher and get the scraps. you can have meat, sinew, fat, organs and things like that almost if not totally free! just build up the scraps until it seems ok.

another trick would be buying this:

i'm talking about the tenth item. it doesn't look top notch, but covered in fake blood, it'll be very realistic.

woh! i was trying to figure out something similar to this today. me and my friends are all beginning to put together a film we might do in the christmas holidays, and it involves torturing people and watnot. anyway we just keep trying to think up of different and posibally unique ways of torturing people, and i thought of a cheese-grater. so i figured out that if you put a decent layer of pva glue on your skin ( i tried my arm) and let it dry itll be clear and you cant see it, then i used the cheese-grater on it and it tears it up and looks quite good, all you need to do is somehow get some blood or something under it.
so is he alreadt skinned? cos then you could just do my method and make it look pretty with blood and stuff. plus its very easy and in-expensive.
anyway this is prob of no use to you jsut me blabbing on.

good-day to you.

directly grating the glue? boy, that sounds like something that might easily hurt your actors, dude! be sure to put some protection under the glue!

I understood he talked about elmer's glue, but it's the face that he'll be using a cheese grater on his actor that makes me nervous. I don't think glue, even thick, will be a sufficient protection.

Sounds like a good idea but atleast have a small layer of sheet metal under the glue.

Lol, if u want to have a nice looking cut or burn on an arm or something, thats like healing. You could like spoof onto where the wound needs to be. It works well. LOL! And its free. Seriously though, some glue does do that same effect.

no, i didnt mean super glue, and what the hell is elmer's glue? dont you have PVA glue over in america or britian or where ever.
but no, it doesnt harm you really, you just use the little circles of the grater not the big blades, the only thing that hurts is peeling off the glue from your arm hair, ouch. plus i think youd be able to see a sheet of metal under it as it dries clear, thats the whole point.

and yeh please change the fricking avatar it pushes all the posts over and is quite annoying

Yeah, or you can make fairly good glue, that looks like alot like bodily fluids by mixing flour and water together. It does the same effect too. And It doesnt hurt pulling it off ur arm hair if you put hot water on it (it just turns back to normal glue, that goes off quickly). It suprising how much that mixture is to the real body fluids. LOL! Im such a freak, but watcha gonna do bout it? PUNK?

We did a scene where a guy gets his skin taken off with a potato peeler during a torture scene. I used a cut section from a plastic milk jug, used some surgical adhesive to keep it to the arm, latexed it with a fim built latex, and in the pocket between the plastic and the appliance I put a small baggy with a little bit of blood and bacon fat. When the peeler cuts into the arm appliance the blood and fat begin to come from the slit. Remember to makeup/paint the open areas where the plastic will show with reds/blacks and I always add a few white and yellow spots for fat and bone. Maybe you can translate that to what you are doing. It also will save the risk of scraping your actor.
