How to stop yourself dying when you fall out of a skyscraper

Post by Jimbobsquarepants »

hey in my film, an assasin/spy jumps out of a skyscraper in order to escape capture from the people inside. The original idea was, as she is falling, she deploys a parachute and lands, unharmed.

however i have realised that making a parachute open could be dfficult to do.

can anyone tell me any alternate ways she can save herself, or tell me how to do the parachute opening?

thanks

Um... u cld get her to jump out of the second story.
She could.... um....
land on something soft
land in a moving garbage truck
land in water
land doin a flip to the ground, to take off some of the pressure
fall and grab onto things as she goes down to stop the speed a bit (like a bridge or something)

lol jojimbo don't make her do any stunts whatsoever unless she's trained in those areas!

Otherwise through cinematography i think the best would be to cut to her landing on something soft, hehe

Sorry Rhys, but that has got to be the worst advise I have seen yet. Every one of those replies have got to be the dumbest ideas ever.

she presses a button and wings pop out like a bat attached to her hip and wrist and she glides gracefully into a window and splats onto it and then slides down leaving a trail of drool

Do you think rhys might be on edge because someone has to take a shot at him in every single goddamn topic he posts in?

Anyways, I like the idea of some sort of grapple gun, or even a piece of construction equipment that would enable her to swing back into the building, crashing through the glass a few stories down.

Ooh, that's a sweet idea, UFProductions. Maybe there's a scaffold outside, or one of those window cleaning platform deals, and she can grab the pole on the side of it and use it as a pivot.

There's not really any way I can think of that you can survive a fall from a skyscraper unless, as rhys said, it's from about the second story (but somehow I don't think that's what you had in mind!).

Maybe she can jump out the window, catch a ledge on the next story down, and sort of crawl her way down the building? Or, she catches the ledge, attaches a rapelling line (but you'd need a good explanation for why she's carrying one), and descends the rest of the way.
People shouldn't be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.

Right DEDFX, cos it really wasnt the same thing posted straight after.
She could always just smash through that glass, then grab onto the floor and break through to the story underneath.

Have you seen Mr. and Mrs. Smith?

She could like rappel down the building using some funky wire gadget. Or perhaps an extendable bra strap! *pervert*

Or she could have rocket propelled stilettos...

I think a rappelling device would be cool though.

Hang glider, flying-suit-thing out over a lake or something, jetpack. Resident Evil Apocalypse-style rapelling device, or back into the building using platforms, grapple, or whatnot. I'd say do the jetpack if you can get some good FX on it and do a bluescreen. That is, assuming this is like James Bond or ridiculous spy-type show. :) It'd be fun to film the rapelling thing I think too.

good ideas! dont worry, there wont be any stunt work, i am using greenscreen and i have done 3d for all the buildings. oo i got a good idea! she could attach a hook inside the building just before she jumps, and then she has a wire trailing behind her as she falls. go it cheers guys.

extendable brastrap.........lol...............mong

LOL, sorry RHYS, I misread the topic. I thought he meant ways to stop him from getting hurt if he jumped out of a 2 story window, like use boxes or something.

Could they not accidentally land on a window-washer's cradle?

Then maybe the wires holding it up could start to snap one by one.

She drops into sea.

There's actually a real case that someone sky diving and whose parachute wouldn't open survived. She just fell onto the farm or something.
