RE: my first flick

Post by Djokicko »

Well it wasn’t actually a film (If flick means film) it was more of a test, right?
I didn’t look to convincing maybe if you used that explosion sample and made a couple smaller explosion instead of one big because you see it didn’t look rely good it look more like a wire cracker then a explosion.
Like I sead try again just make couple smaller explosion and add sound.

Yeah i agree with Djokicko. (like the whole thing)
But one thing, the detonation films footage sucks big time. Unless ur gonna pay for the stuff they have, its gonna be lame. Whats ur email adress? i could link you to some really good footage.

Well your learning your new software which is good, and you did everything correctly, only thing bad is the stock footage. The lines on the explosion were bad and it was way too quick.

There should also be bullet holes in the side of the car.
PS i hate films that are completely unrealistic because of those things like 15, 10 year olds running around with guns having a massive fight, i think its stupid.

I think detontaion films is good (I use it) you just need to pick the right explosion, some of the stuff is cr**, but this particular explosion called 'triple' is great! Anyway, yeah, there was no sound, which you can get from this site, which add a lot of realisim. Also, different stock footage as everyone else is saying, pick something more realistic, and also nothing happened ot the gorund after the explosion! It was just like a random explosion which effected nothing but the man. Possibly, I know this is hard, but possibly you could film the guuy walking and then put that over a clip of the ground and an explosion, insteaad of putting a clip of the man and the gorund with the explosion - if you follow?

P.S. What software are using, out of interest?

Most (half or more) of detonations films sutff is really shotty though. You just need to find the right site.

rhys, I've found most of the footage at Detonation Films to be useful. You just need to know where to use it, and, like most other things in special effects work, you can't just drag-and-drop a video and get professional quality results. All stock footage requires careful compositing, and this is true of the videos from Detonation Films.

It's not just about finding the right footage, it's more about knowing how to use the right footage when you find it.

Anyway, back on topic here.

The screen should brighten/white out to a certain extent when you have that large of an explosion. I'd also rock the camera a bit, but that's just a personal preference. Secondly, you need to be more careful about how you're compositing the stock footage; it looked very much like the explosion had been pasted in. And like someone said previously, there should be a hole in the ground after the explosion occurs. Also, some dirt flying through the air would be good, plus a lot of residual smoke.

However, it's not bad for a first attempt. Keep working and you'll be producing much better results.

Artbeats has really good footage, however I know that some of us prefer not to shell out $150 for a NTSC/PAL clip or $50 for a half rez.
