RE: Filmmaking Magazines?
I currently have a subscrition to Filmmaker Magazine...it's a magazine for Independent Films and it gives you the latest news on well...independent films. A lot of the articles the filmmakers give a lot of good advice and whatnot to filmmakers. www.filmmakermagazine.com
If you're looking for a magazine that is centralized on giving advice to filmmakers I once stuck at an airport picked up Videomaker Magazine and that seemed to be more for helping and giving camera reviews... http://www.videomaker.com/scripts/index.cfm

I just go to Borders to see if any of them are good.
I like Fangoria but some issues suck.
FilmMaker Magazine is good but I've only viewed 1 of them, I'm thinking of subscribing though.

Go to your local mall, library (maybe), or book store. Usually in them they have good deals on subscriptions and sometimes on their web sites.

I get Videography (www.videography.com) which has news about independent films, cameras/film making equipment, as well has some nice tips on lighting, framing, etc. I've read Videomaker, it's mostly reviews of cameras and computers.

I'd Rather just get a good book fromt he library for tips and what not rather than shed out doller for a crappy magazine.

All the ones in my library are 50 years old... Get a "For Dummies book"or just look at your book store and see which one is good, sorry I can't name the good ones at mine.

I used to buy a lot of Cinefex magazines. They were my favorite.

If you are in the UK, then there are loads of newsletters you can recieve for free, from the British Arts Council or Scottish Screen, their websites have online industry magazines and other stuff. Thats if you want the industrial news for low budget / creative media in the UK anyway.

Ha ha! I agree with that!freed wrote:I'd Rather just get a good book fromt he library for tips and what not rather than shed out doller for a crappy magazine.
I used to love reading the magazines when I was younger and inexperienced, and when I wanted to buy a new video camera.
But these days I don't really want a 3 page tutorial on how to put titles on my videos in Movie Maker.
Get a good book. I think that if you don't learn anything from the book, you're still several times more likely to be motivated from reading it than a magazine.
