Steady cam

Post by foxwood »

Who knows how to build a steady cam rig that doesn't involve much in the way of metal work, and won't cost a whole lot thanks.

I plan on building one myself. I plan on using an "I'-bolt from a ATV. (I'm not sure extaclly what part of the ATV it is from/ oe what exactlly it is called) But, it would work great as a gyro-scope.

We own four, and they always seem to make an appreace in own films.

One person can also do good tracking shots from the ATV, as long as they know what they ared doing and they don't drive into somthing.:o

Yeah, I made a dolly a while ago. The only problem is that the axle can't support the weight of a camera operator. This comes to an advantage though when you don't have a crew. Below is the tutorial...

Of course, I modified it slightly for my purposes. But that's the general idea. Fortuantely, it cost me WAY less than $50 to make because I already ahd mosdt of the supplies in my garage. I think i ended up paying somewhere around $14 for the parts I didn't have...

I made my own cable-cam! Without any tutorials on the internet.

It works great! I run it on a 100 foot-long cable, which you can suspend basically anywhere.

I can fly my camer through trees, bushes, over stuuf, beside stuff, even over bodies of water.

Next time I have it set-up, I should take some pictures of it and post them on the forum.

It's very impressive, once it is set-up. I even built the whole adjusted camera mount too, on it.

So you can do "fly over" shoots like the did during the final fight in Fellowship of the ring, sweet. You should not only post up pictures but a how to.

Once I have some pictures up, it should be pretty obvious to people on how to build one.

I don't plan the starting filming my next film, for at least a mouth.

But don't worry, I won't forget to post the picture once I have it set-up. (I currently have it packed-up in one of my sheds.)

The amount of time it takes to set-up depends greatly on where you want the cable to run. Usally it only takes about 10 min. I usally use the winch on one of my ATV's to pull the tight , so that it dosen't sag, and cause to camera to fly into the ground.
Thankfully, that has never happened:(
