quick tutorial by me:

get a paintball,
make small slash and empty out all the paint,
put in the "rocks" of noise makers (snaps, popper, little white papers that make a noise when you throw them)
seal with small bit of hot glue.

it prob will make a noise when it hits something but just edit it out.

My guess is they painted the bullet holes and tracked the camera shot.

The frames were so brief, you don't even really need to do any tracking. In reality there wouldn't be a ton of sparks. It's more of a Hollywood concept, probably originating from using squibs, which naturally would spark. The spark are just visuals to show the viewer something's getting hit. Anyway, a spark wouldn't result from going through metal. It would be causing by the deflection (metal against metal) the same effect when you whack a shovel against rock.

CTBullet:
Do you know what Sprite Bombs are? They are like those Pop Pop snap things but they spark (just like in the video that was posted). They would look great. But I dont know if you have them in england.

I just found a site that sells them.

What I did once for a great muzzle flash was I put one down the barrel of my airsoft gun (it didnt fit down the barrel but it stayed in the place where the bb leaves. Anyways I loaded the gun and shot and the bb exploded the sprite bomb right out of the muzzle. it looked sweet.

But it would look great throwing them against a wall and it would get the effect you want
I can try to make a movie and send it to you if you would like

i've looked at the link, and i've never seen sprite bombs before, they just look like small rocks, i'm going to look around joke shops to see if they are sold in england

if you are willing to make a movie to show me your technique it would be appreciated

oh and you generally never get sparks in reality because a bullet head is copper, like epsilon said, its all for hollywood

thanks

Here is the link for the sprite bomb hitting metal. It was my last sprite bomb, but i will try to make one of it shooting from the gun when I get more. Tell me what you think:

The bullet holes in the car looked really good! I was wondering if there were any other way then painting black circles on the car that would look just as good?

black stickers...black inked paper stuck down with a bit of classroom glue.

The shot was really short, audiences wouldnt be able to distinguish the difference between real holes or black areas in that amount of time.

Or perhaps it is stock footage due to the fact that it did have quick changes and the screening on one of the circles was very slightly pixelated. Could be something else but thats my guess.
