Sugar Glass Bottle

I'm making a sugar glass bottle and I need a bit of help on the mold. First, what material should I make it out of? Second, how do I hollow out the middle part so that the bottle is not solid sugar glass? Thanks.

You might be better off buying sugar glass bottles. Not just in saving time... but how can you be sure the mix will be fragile enough to not hurt the actor?

If I remember correctly, I think the industries that mass produce breakable props make the bottles similar in process to real glass. Check out www.smooth-on.com and see what they have. These guys have cool stuff and provide for many professional productions.

just pour it into the mold when its very hot then turn the mold upside down so the sugar will stick to the sides of the mold

Buy bottles/glasses at Alfonso's Breakaway Glass. They supply all of the major hollywood movies, like the Cyberdyne Systems shootout at the end of Terminator 2. Check them out. I'm definently going to buy from them for my movie this summer.

you're going to make a 2 part mold out of maybe plaster, if not that then bondo or something.

I was thinking...
there's stuff at the store Michaels (arts + crafts store) callled polyester casting resin "http://www.dickblick.com/zz335/20/" has a shelf life of 6 months and thought it could be used instead of melted sugar, just make it stick to the sides of your 2 part mold thin, im gunna try it.

Use casting latex or Silicone with a plaster mother mould.

Go down to your local library and see if they have Thurston James, The Prop Builders Molding and Casting Handbook to get some tips.

Smooth-On's Oomoo 30 is a good, simple mould silicone. And the test kit (1Pint each of the A & B liquids) is very inexpensive. Smooth -on also lists their distributors on their web page so you might find someplace in your home town
