Anyone with martial arts knowlege

Post by jackbauer24 »

For anyone who knows about martial arts:

Is there a certain kind of kick I could do that could really make the actor fly backward. he would be wearing protective something under his shirt, but is a there certain spot that would really project them backwards without causing them terrible pain?

if i am not being clear tell me. thanks

hmmmm in reality any thrusting style kick should do that. I would practise first though!

Watch Enter The Dragon with Bruce Lee. He did a running side kick to one of the actors and sent him flying. No wires involved in that one. It was friggin cool.

i would aim for the breastbone

there is a high risk you could crack it but its the best place if kicking the chest

Uh... don't -really- kick. You're not gonna make 'em fly without getting hurt. Get a propper harness and have one or two people pull him back hard as he jumps when you kick. You'll need matts for him to land on, a LOT of them.

I would rather not use harnesses and other things like that. I was planning on using a mat for the actor to land on though. And the actor would jump back with the kick so that he would fly back more. I like the idea about the breastbone idea. maybe i could create some sort of protection for under the shirt

Protection would be a VERY good idea as the last thing you want to be doing is a pre-cardial thump, and turning your movie from kick a** film to an ER reality show. Always consider your actors safety and the better the stunt the more protection and planning will be required.

any kick to the chest area WILL hurt the actore (knock the wind out of him and maybe brake/crack a bone or two) even if they have a lot of padding. I foyu want him to look rediculous with a bunch of pillows and stuff then it wouldn't hurt him, but look bad on film.

Yes the actor has to at least train with reacting to the kick and forcing themselves backward with more force. If they do not react with the strike then they are going to get hurt!

you could do a modified thrust kick....

A thrust kick is basically bringing your back (kicking leg) up anderneath you and thrusting with the sole of your foot through your target, then returning to fighting stance.

If you were to be at a slight angle, you could kick into the abs and upwards, and with the target jumping a litte, you could probably send him flying.
