Making them, as you can tell from the Google results, isn't "advised" but then it's not terribly complicated, either.

Pressurized air / the "weed sprayer" method is what I'd go with in most cases, instead of dealing with explosives. It's safer, cheaper, and usually will work just as well. I'd imagine it's also cheaper in the long run.

A squib is used for simulating bullet impacts, typically on an actor's wardrobe or key props.

It's basically an explosive charge with an electrical detonator, applied over a protective plate (as to not harm the person or prop), and secured. The wire is hidden. You can place a blood packet over the explosive for a desired blood splatter. The squib is hidden where the effect is to take place, clothing is scored to allow the area to tear apart when detonated.

I know what a squib is, but does anyone here know where the name 'squib' came from? I may just be stupid but it seems like a made up word, is there any actual meaning to it, like an abbreviation or something? I'm just curious about it.
