what is masking? is it when you do something with a blk and white photo or do u draw round a bit of video you want to cover up?

Masking is the method of cropping out what you don't want to see, like making parts of a frame transparent.

you don't have any sort of help file at ALL in premiere?

play around with things, try out the different filters and settings yourself until you gain some kind of competence.
