A few weeks ago I purchased a Canon MV800 camcorder because my old one got wet and was destroyed...The microphone in the MV800 records a LOT of mechanical noise from the camera. It's really annoying,it sounds like a CPU Fan is stuck next to the speaker when you watch the recorded footage!!! Oh,and there's no slot for an external microphone..Do you have any ideas how I can reduce the noise? Noise reduction filters in Vegas don't help much...
Thanks

no external microphone plug? I'm sorry but I guess you'll have to do with it... I'm afraid that cell phones & all that won't change much, since it really is the motor that the microphone is recording. (I know, my canon elura 100 does the same thing) Happily, it has a mic jack, so I bought myself a nice boom mic that was at 40% rebate!

Yeah, I'm stuck with the same deal; rushed into buying a new camcorder without checking specs (mind you, this was three years ago, before I even really knew external mics existed). In any case, if you've got a laptop you're set, just use it as an external recording device, and it's real convenient if it's your primary editing machine too. If not there are other options: DAT recorders (expensive), USB recording devices (some aren't bad), or, as I have been considering for a while now, wiring a jack into your camcorder. It's a pretty simple theory: just cut the wires to the camera's existiing mic, and solder in a jack from RadioShack. You can kiss the warranty goodbye if you choose this route though. Best of luck!
