No - it may not be realistic, but it's a lot safer for everyone involved. Cheaper too - the .45 and .44 Python were $60 and $70. The other .45 is a PFC gun, cost me $115. The XM177 carbine is a Marushin kit that I bought off of Redwolf Airsoft for $205. Big mistake, since the kits have very large problems with them - unless you know a gunsmith in your area, it ain't going to fire once you get it put together. Two things - the bolt and barrel are made from two different kinds of metals - pot metal and aluminum. The frictions keeps the bolt from cocking properly. In addition to that, the bolt barely even fits inside, so you basically need to widen the barrel and apply a thin film of Gun Slick to the bolt to get it to work properly. Shell out the extra cash and buy one that comes preassembled.

Yep, the carbine is both semi and full auto (everything about the function of this weapon is 100% realistic, right down to the caliber of the cartridges)
That is, of course, provided that you load the caps right. Which is a damned hard thing to do, considering you need two different caps of seperate sizes for it to work right.

I bought one of those for reenacting...
I broke off the orange cap, removed the grips, repainted the body with Testors metallic "gunmetal" spray paint, took apart the pistol grip backing, replaced the crappy lanyard loop with exact same width piano wire (so I can really use a lanyard) reassembled the pistol, and polished down the paint job to get a brushed steel effect.
It looks VERY real now, and I keep it in a reproduction WW2 holster (from www.whatpriceglory.com ) The holster should be broken in and treated with olive oil. They sell very nice reproduction lanyards too. SO... after a bit of work, you have a very authentic looking WW2 pistol set. It's part of my impression and nobody can tell the difference by looking at it.
It's a great temporary solution until I am actually able to legally purchase a real M1911.

Hey guys, you've got some cool live stuff there.
Epsilon, I plan to get my m1911 in around 4 years...assumeing the Liberals don't get back in power by then. I have a whole bunch of airsoft m1911a1 replicas, as well as 2 blank firing ones.
In terms of live stuff, I only have one thing. She's an old 5 shot Belgian Bulldog antique revolver (mfg around 1893) chambered in .450 Boxer (.455 Webley MKII, or .450 Fiocchi works well too). She still looks pretty good for her age. The trigger is very heavy though.
I also picked up a nice Lee Enfield case (no1 mk3 or no4 mk1) that was once to Australia.

Okay here it is. The second photograph is comparing the pistol to original Colt magazines. I used Testors Model Master - Metalizer Lacquer "Gunmetal" #1455.Epsilon wrote:I broke off the orange cap, removed the grips, repainted the body with Testors metallic "gunmetal" spray paint, took apart the pistol grip backing, replaced the crappy lanyard loop with exact same width piano wire (so I can really use a lanyard) reassembled the pistol, and polished down the paint job to get a brushed steel effect.

Yeah, you get the "clean" look in the shade. The second photo was in direct sunlight. I suppose I could grease it up like I do with real firearms and hope it doesn't dissolve the paint!

i think the orange tip makes a weapon more realistic---- joke
they suck a**, loving the colt 45, i no you said about the lighting but to me it still looks too clean, throw it around a little, on concrete of course (if you want it to break)
