What's your style?

The post about the diffused glow look got me thinking, normally everybody has their own style to making a film (like Tarintino's crazy bold text, bright colors, ect.), although, I'm talking about original. What's yours?

It doesn't have to be color correcting and stuff like that, I'm talking general.

Mine is more contained in the picture, I like to make livlier colors, darker shadows, and brighter lights.

Basically I just like to make odder, quirkier stuff than other people make... should probably upload our mockumentary "Midwestern Movie" to sort of show you what I'm talking about, since most of you have only seen my stuff involving guns and action and things like that.

I love to keep every shot in motion, even if it's the slightest movement, it can make a difference.

I love slow panoramic views following the action of the characters. I hate tightly cropped "blair-witch-style" camerawork that makes me feel sea-sick when I watch it - Like in Battlestar Galatica (New series) for instance.

Hell yeah! Since watching BSG TNS i've pretty much abandoned the old tripod and started moving about a lot! Keeps things interesting...

Lots of motion, POV shots, try for angles that should not be possible for a low budget. I usually desaturate and up the contrast a little bit too.

i guess it depends on the film, if its an action film then i do fast cuts and i always use some sort of zoom, dark colours, sometimes red tint, high contrast, strang music and powerful music (like opera, etc.). For other types of movies i tend to do very slow cuts, no or little zoom, natural colours low contrast high saturation, and normal (as in not odd or strange ) music

I tend to jump from steady to arthritic camera shots (The Shield). It depends on the video.

Also I love to have the pictures as dark as viewably possible.

And I never like to leave the picture with just normal colors, I love to take away different ones and replace them or anything to make the picture look wierd.

-Fast paced story telling, with one or two brethers in between.
-Lots of high/sweeping epic shot
-I too like camera movemnet (but only when somthing's moving on screen)
-A mild and constranined/proper use of visual effects
-Usally contain more than one central character
-somtimes frantic editing during scenes
-scenes were the sound cuts out, and very errie/cool music kicks in (somthimes in Slow-mo)

Thats all I can think of right now.

i sometimes do very saturated and mezzotinted with enornously high contrast scenes for some action scenes that are very fast paced.

I'm in the process of planning my first short film. I've shot some test footage over the weekend. I was going to try and go for a Sin City effect but changed my mind. I decided I would play around with the the color balance, brightness and contrast filters. I've got some really cool tinting go on in my footage. It sets the mood also. And with tension shots, I'm planning on using red tint with heavy shadows.

Another nice way of making scenes more chaotic and moving is to move around the actors in circle, works great outside. Try that whith two characters fighting... amazing!

I'm still kinda working on my style...and i don't have my own camera yet, my friend has the only camera....But i like lots of close ups, lots of slow zooming (or dollying). I also like the fast-paced urgent kind of feel you get when you take the camera off the tripod and do it hand-held, i really like it to be slightly shaky, but not so much that it's a distraction, and it's only good in action scenes.

I (the friend with the camera) cant stand static shots its got to be action all the time. for boring dialoge scenes I like to spice it up with some circling shots and such. basically all anlges that are exciting and new.

I mainly try to come up with unique angles, and i dont like alot of briteness in my shots. POV shots are good 2. I love doing free hand shots alot as well because the way i see it, it makes the audience feel like there in the action alot of the time.

i like dollied/track shots that sweep accross.
i like lit subjects with dark surroundings/little ambient lighting for horror flicks.
high shutter speed for action shots.
low contrast (wide range of colors and tones)
far away, zoomed in close shots. (compressed)

my style is whatever...

recently, a friend and i have been coming up with short funny sketches. mostly we have wide shots and only one for the whole scene but sometimes we need to switch betwen parts, (usually one of us doubles up as another character) because we only have two actors.

My style is pretty much a mixed bag, I'm a big fan or gorefests but have allways kept myself
making films with a very heavy noir edge.
I use alot of b/w flashbacks with a heavy old film filter and lots of grain, I like that,
looks very creepy sometimes......when it comes to music I use music that no one
will recignise, for songs that is.
I often turn down the brightness, saturate the color and turn up the contrast, it gives
a very heavy, dark picture quality I enjoy alot, The blacks get blacker, shadows jump out more
and peoples faces look more menacing. When it comes to horror, i break the conventions
by having most of the terror in the daytime, does it work? you tell me, but it works for us.
If my films where to be released they would probably make it to the arthouse section,
there isnt allways alot of talking and I like long shots that you can dwell on.
but apart from that....its a mixed bag.

-SUPER wide, as wide as I can go!
-Long sequence shots, I try to hold the shot as long as possible before cutting.
-Track dolly shots
-High shutter speed
-handheld, but not shaky, just slightly drifting left and right, if you know what I mean.
-I also try to create suspense in an average conversation, by the angle used.
