Wire rig.

Post by rhys »

Hey,
With wire rigs, does the harness have to be worn under the clothes?
It seems a bit weird and sounds a little uncomfortable.
Thanks

Well, it depends on if you want the harness seen or not.

Well... yes, if you don't want it to be seen on camera. Typically the actor has a light base layer of clothes (like a T-shirt and shorts) on underneath the harness, and the actual costume on top, with appropriate holes cut for the wires. The thing is, with any harness designed to support your weight, you are going to be damn uncomfortable most of the time. If you are comfortable, then the harness isn't tight enough.

You can wear spandex clothes underneath the harness and costume you´re useing. A good harness doesn´t have to be unconfortable. It is supposed to be really thight but that doesn´t mean it needs to be unconfortable so that it´s safe to use it. I have bought some harnesses over the past few years and none of them is ´´uncomfortable´´ enought so that it´s impossible to wear it for extended periods of time. Harnesses are supposed to be thight but not unconfortable, that´s why they are so expensive.
