8mm Film

Post by Ornsack »

I really really wanna shoot stuff on film at the moment. Seeing as though 16mm and 35mm are really expensive, thought I'd start with 8mm.

Probably an extreme long shot asking this on this forum, but does anyone know how to go about buying 8mm film in the UK these days?

I wanna do the same pretty much, if I were you I would goto Kodak.com and order it there. If you needed help you could call and talk to someone and they are not that expensive.

Shooting on film seems like it would be a great experience. Does 8mm have a sound track?

Kodak.com is a great place to start but to be honest, just try eBay. That's where I've bought most of my super8mm and 16mm film from. Whether or not 8mm has sound depends on the camera, mine's silent but I'm just gonna record sound seperately and synch up later...

i have an 8 mm camera, you can order film from a local photography shop. its definitely helpful to get some experience using film. I just had my first 35 mm experience. I worked on a feature film set for a month in California. We shot on a Panavision. However, when shooting on film you will have to learn lighting really well if you want to shoot indoors.

And yet no one listens to me when I tell them to practice lighting, or actually try to use it for that matter...

True, because you can't go back and fix something once the films developed; there's no second chances.

Thanks guys for the info!

I've had 16mm and 35mm experience. Except it was when I was younger and my dad was finishing film reels off. These days I'd kill for such chances again!

My worst regret is my dad giving me a 16mm Bolex when I was about 7 when he got our first camcorder, and I ended up using it as a toy and destroyed it. I hate myself for that.

it was a film called reunion. it was only a $500,000, but we got so many hook ups that it looks more like a 10 million dollar film. The 1st AC works at Panavision so the production got a great deal on the camera. The gaffer works at paramount so all the lights were free. there were lots of other cool deals. Shooting wrapped on the 17th, but post production wont be done until october.

Wow, that is a low budget even for an independent film. Is it available at movie rental places?
