Windows and file sizes

Post by Grant »

Now i am sure that Win98 can only handle a single file size of 2Gig, but what can XP or others handle?
I heard that XP can handle much larger files.
I export movies for video in MJPEG for the quality and 2 gig is roughly 15mins of exported footage. I one day want to expand on that;)

XP can handle upto 4gig in Fat32 file format & unlimited in NTFS file format. The latter is the way to go & you can change your file format without loosing data on your drive. :D

I've got XP and use NTFS on all my drives so file size limits do not apply.

However, the DVD file system has a 4Gb limit so may want to consider this if you ever plan on shoving your files onto DVD.

7 MB ?! -AND- high quality for 30 min? Are you using div X, or a regular format with some kind of miracle working codec or compression?

Well, here is the program that I use for my capturing, and I love it. It is called Scenalyzer Live (www.scenalyzerlive.com) and it helps a lot. For one, if you are using 98, and can only have the 2 gig file limits, it automaticly breaks your files into 2 gig chunks. Also, if you want, it has a smart batch capturing, in which you can index your tape, and select the scenes you want, and it will record them seperatly, or just have it record the tape, and it can put them all in their own scenes! This is definatly worth checking out, and saves a lot of time in my opinion.

Grant, what program are you using to export your video? I'm using Ulead Videostudio 7 and I can export to DivX just fine. If you are unable to 'DivX' your movie, you need to find out fast.

No i can export to DivX fine, the problem is that if I do then i for some reason can not export that to video? I can hear the sound, but not see the video. MJPEG is native to my MATROX capture card but the problem being the big file size from Premiere using that codec

I've had the same problem too. You need to have the latest version of the DivX player open, then drag the file you want to watch into the DivX screen. But I've always burned my movies on DVD; much easier than recording to tape.
