There's been a lot of roadkill around here lately, for some reason... It just looks like a pile of flattened fur with pinkness pooled around it. Nothing really gruesome and dramatic. But for a movie you can get innovative and maybe build a paper mache carcass? Fill it with an old lunch of french fries? Try some things! :)

You are mad. Don't buy an animal and kill it. Pet stores are expensive!!!

Buy a puppet and pour blood and guts around it.

... is it just me or is the "kill and animal" idea a little harsh?

I suppose you could wait until the next squirrel or raccoon gets it... then your work it cut out for you! :|

There is no practicality behind creating digital roadkill...

You can get some fairly realistic looking soft toys these days, use one of them, and gore out the bits that look fake, so the whole thing looks like fresh real roadkill. Oh, and if you are using something like this, fill it with sand (Or something else that has a reasonable distributed weight), and remove some of the stuffing. If an actor is picking it up, it'll have a more realistic look from the added weight than a lightweight fluffy thing.

Yeah I wouldn't go around picking up dead animal bodys.. got a cat or dog? You may be able to use them as an actor, if you can get the to co-operate long enough. A hard task, but hold the dog/cat down if you have to! Food also works well. If not, you can always go to your local butcher and ask for old intestenes thats otherwise garbage, and combine it with other elements to form a dead body.
