Gun shot sound effect without computers

Post by CORPSE GRINDER »

Hey I was wondering how I could get the realistic sound of me firing a gun on film. Due to my equipment (or lack there of) I cannot dub it in later or use a program to put it in. It would need to be as I "shot" the gun. What technique for aquiring the sound do you suggest?:(

Why can't you dub it in later? Just curious...

Even if you can'y edit on a computer, that doesn't mean you can't edit your films. Do some analog aditing and you can thus dub in the sound effect(s)...

YAY! An Old School answer opportunity!

If you use an improvised cap gun, that'll usually do the job for giving a gun sound - Use the ring caps, as the paper strip ones aren't very good.

Right, that's the gun sound bit answered.

Want to go a bit more high-tech, wire the gun up to a switch, you can then remotely detonate something like a fire-cracker that'll give that loud gun bang sound!

Using a blank-firing gun would be the best bet, but not everyone has access to those, and they are not cheap!

Oh, one other thing - Your avatar points to a file on your own hard-drive. You need to have a file uploaded onto the Internet for the picture to show, because all we can see is a while box with a red X in it!

thank you very much. the smacking of the planks of wood might actually work pretty well.

now that's what i call low-budget filmmaking.

Why can't you just put the sound in in post?
