Converting DV AVI to MPEG 1 or 2

Post by starbase109 »

I'm just getting started with Premier 6.5. I have not problems editing my video clips and reassembling them back into DV that I can export into my camera to go onto VHS. My problem is MPEG encoding. I use the native MPEG enocde in Premier and it successfully creates the two files (the m2v and the wav). My question is, now what do I do with them? How do I get them into MPEG format? I have DVDit! also, but it wants to burn directly onto a DVD disk, and while I plan on doing that later, for now I just want MPEGS. ANY help would be great either replies on the board, or email me at starbase@netdoor.com

Thanks,

Tony

Hi,

What you need to do is, when you click File > export timeline > Adobe Mpeg encoder, you'll see two check boxes...

Save to DVDit! media folder
Launch DVDit! after export

You should uncheck them.
That should stop it from trying to burn to a DVD.

The M2v file is an mpeg file but without sound attached to it.
Try importing your M2v file into DVDit & try importing the audio as well. If DVDit doesn't let you, you need to muliplex the files with a program like TmpgEnc.
I use ReelDVD3 & it only accepts Mv2 + seperate audio files.

You can set the Adobe Mpg encoder to mulitplex the files the next time you use it by selecting Advanced in the mpeg stream box then click the edit button, click the multiplexer settings tab to the far right & in the multiplex type dropdown menu, click DVD.

Hope this is of some use & if you have anymoree questions i'm sure me or another member of this forum will try to help.

I guess I missed that part under the advanced tab in the Adobe encoder. I thought it was strange that Adobe didn't have a built-in encoder.

Thanks again
