It's not an actual explosion, but it gives the effect of one.

Detonation Films' stock explosions look pretty realistic...Carnage7p wrote:i decided that stock explosions suck after i realized that they look totally unrealistic. it is fine if you just want to have fun with film making but if you want to strive for a professional look then you stay away from stuff like that. either go for real recipes or don't use them at all.

prove it, saying they look good means nothing. post a clip with a realistic look and i will never speak poorly upon stock explosions again. and by real i do mean that i actually believe the explosion was in the shot and not composited in.WeirdEars wrote:Detonation Films' stock explosions look pretty realistic...Carnage7p wrote:i decided that stock explosions suck after i realized that they look totally unrealistic. it is fine if you just want to have fun with film making but if you want to strive for a professional look then you stay away from stuff like that. either go for real recipes or don't use them at all.

How? You're always complaining that you're not old enough to have get a job and so on and so forth. Anywho, how I would make one is by taking those "whistling" fireworks that make the irratating screeching noise. You pop a small hole in it to get all the orange powder out then wrap it up in duct or electrical tape and pound it with a hammer until the powder gets really soft. Light it and you have yourself a small explosion (stick it under some dirt so just the tip and the fuse sticks out).I'll pay some idiot to.

detonation films has a "cremora blowpipe", i made it, its basically a tube with coffee creamer poured in the end, blow in one side and have the creamer ignite one a piece of coal and you can get a descent 5-6 foot explosion, good for getting the light on the actor and all, though you might want to have some debri and such, check it out on their website.

Oh yeah? Hollywood productions use stock footage ALL THE TIME. That's the reason it is called stock footage. Only the unexperienced will claim professionals do not use stock footage. Ironic, isn't it?Carnage7p wrote:i decided that stock explosions suck after i realized that they look totally unrealistic. it is fine if you just want to have fun with film making but if you want to strive for a professional look then you stay away from stuff like that. either go for real recipes or don't use them at all.
