bloodshot eye effect

hi, im making a movie with a bunch of sketchy scenes involving drugs and i would like to know if anyone had any ideas about how to get bloodshot eyes safely and without smoking pot!! is there a makeup or drops for this to make the eyes red? if anyone has any ideas, let me know.

There may be a type of contact you can use, they've got colored contacts you can look up. Maybe try that.

A cheaper way is to tell the actor not to get any sleep for an entire night. Then have them cut onions.

contacts would only help if the middle of the eys could get bloodshot. what im talking abouyt is making the white part of the eye red without computer animation

I think crb has the best low cost alternative, but if you want to invest the money (They'll knock you back about $295 a pair), and time to wait for delivery:

I have a bloodshot eye in the begining of my film because I had no good sleep for a week. It looked effective. You could have a quicker effect by having someone punch you in the eye a couple times, but wouldn't recommend it.LOL

actually when I was shooting you would have been expecting someone to punch you in the eye! I got punched in the side of the face, kneed in the chin and almost stabbed twice!

you could try a thin wipe of chest rub ointment on the cheek under the eye to cause a slight irritation. I dont know the brand names of such products you may have access to. We in OZ have such likes as Vix, Tiger Balm etc. The technique is also used to simulate watery eyes

or try some rubbing alcohol on the cheeks. That'll irritate the eyes.

If the contacts are going to run you $295, it'll be a hell of a lot cheaper, with a more realistic appearance, if you just smoke the dope. I know that's not the ideal approach, but keep it in the back of your mind as a last resort.

if you're getting contacts make sure you get you eyes measure by an eye doctor. If you don't they can jack up your eyes permanently.

Whenever I get shampoo in my eyes while I shower it makes my eyes blood shot, but I wouldn't recomend it as it hurts really bad.

im guessing if your making a movie about drugs youve probably smoked yourself, so then i recomend going out and smoking some doobies heh. but you can also just wash your eyes and rub them, it works the same....

You could also try eating some spearmint, pepermint lifesavers and then have the guy hold his eye open and blow your breath into it, makes my eyes red right up.

Bit of mint toothpaste in the eye does the trick. I had the bad fortune of experiencing that one this morning.

well those are completly different, making blood for a movie has many alternatives but bloodshot eye only has a couple

I've got it! Try to eat a Jalapeno, those things burn the s*** outta ur mouth man! They make ur eyes water and make you sweat, but it'll look pretty good i guess.

Also, those Black Sclera contacts, if i happen to get an extra $300 I'll buy those and go to school like that, lol.

ok i got it, have your actor rub his eyes a lot before. cheap, easy, effective. otherwise, just use normal eye drops they make your eyes red only for a few minutes and of course they are safe. its what they are made for.

Oh this is absolutely so incredibly easy to do. Just use clearasil wipes (probbably 3 bucks for 60 wipes) on your face. This will cause super blood shot eyes for a few moments. Trust me, everytime I use a wipe my eyes turn nearly completely red.
