HD Editing
I just bought a Sony HDR-FX1E and it allows you to film in HDV or DV. I know you can edit DV on Premiere Pro but i have been told that until the plug ins come out next year you cant edit if you film in HDV mode.
Is this right? Can anyone help me out? And what you guys think of the camera? Ive been told its better than an XL2

RE: HD Editing
you must have alot of money to spend....
i dunno about premier, but apple's final cut does HD footage no problem, i was experimenting with some sample footage from panasonic....im assuming that the software is the same.

a pirated copy makes no sense what so ever. I was asking if the programme will allow HDV material to b captured and edited
That camcorder is the best, but I would never buy it because it doesn't have 24P mode. Go here.

It might help. I think Avid Express Pro HD would work perfectly. http://www.avid.com/products/xpressprohd/

The HDV format is not AVI or Quicktime like DV, but MPEG2. As far as capture, I think there needs to be some plugins released, a current format of capture choice is Cineform HD, which is a codec that handles the 1080i capture. Currently, the only app that I know that is really pushing to become compatible with HDV is Vegas 5, which just released a plugin for capture and editing of the footage from your camera (HD footage, SD should be fine) http://www.cineform.com/press/rel-SonySellsCHD.htm
But once you get everything figured out pluginwise (idk what's going on with Adobe as far as plugins for HDV) the cam should give you awesome video. And if you wait until 2006 HD DVD will be here, and you can watch your video on an HDTV uising your DVD player One complaint I have been seeing is that in HDV mode the cam's sound isn't the best, because it is captured with MPEG layer 2 audio as opposed to lossless PCM. But if you really want to get serious you can always use a DAT recorder and a boom mic.
Again, congrats on getting this cam. I was thinking about it, but when I get a new cam I think i'm gonna stick with the DVX100 because of the 24p. and the cinegamma. But still, great cam and great quality, have fun
