Well, in real Kung Fu, you don't get any wooshing noises, just "oooff", and "uurogh", and "aieeee", depending on where you've been hit!
It's easy to make pretend woosh noises though! Get a bamboo cane, a skinny one that's about ½" thick'll do, and simply slice the air with it - you'll get wooshing!
If you're after a deeper woosh, use a thicker cane. You can use other implements, but banboo is good, cuz it's fairly lightweight, and wooshes well because of it's rounded shape!
I'm learning Spanish! How's this: "Mi amigo está pagando la cuenta!"

Hi Swampy, Welcome to the forums!
NO-ONE BOTHERED WELCOMING ME!!!
The woosh noise is another one of these Hollywood created myths - Bit like the discussion we were all having recently about bullets making a squiggle in the air when the rush by:
Bullet Squiggle Post
Here's another one: Why does KITT from Knight Rider always screech his (It's?) tyres, even if he's going slow around a bend! DUBBING! That's why!

In real combat you will get a snap noise as you strike, block and hit ect. But with the hands an dlegs no "woosh" that I have ever heard.
Weaponry is different and with a sword or staff an experienced user will produce very evident "wooshing " sounds.
If oyu need some pm your email and i will see what i can find at home

Thanks, CamClub. As a matter of fact, I found these forums by searching for a sound effects based forum .
The link you just gave (with spin.mpg) is what I and probably bangoker are looking for - the sound of bullets passing by the victim. How do they make those? What effects are used?

Okay, now I'm getting confused:
How can the victim hear the bullets flying by if he's dead. I have made assumptions here!
Also, the bullet is so small, therefore the noise it would make from the air-displacement would be minuscule, compared with the bang from the gun firing in the first place!

All I can say is that it's a good job you're after a woosh sound, and not a swoosh (TM) sound, cuz Nike (R) would sue! (References to Nike (R) are strictly intellectual, and have no commercial relevance)
(C) NIKE (R) and Swoosh (TM) are trademarks of Nike (R). All Rights Reserved By Nike (R)
Movies are for enjoyment - Everyone is entitled to some poetic license! Hollywood does it, so can we!

I actualy figured out a use for the Whoosh sould. I resently filmed a fight scene at night, and we had our bad guy useing throwing knifes, and when he thows them you can't aways tell what he is doing, because you can't really see the knife, until the good guy pulls it from his arm. So the Whoosh, which i now need by the way, actualy has a use, telling the audeace that a knife was thrown, or that a sword was swung if they can't see it well. Does anybody have that sound effect by chance.
Well you could make it yourselves using a portable recorder! Swing a thin stick for the best noise. Or is this any good -

Most hollywood sound effects are added in because they are trying to tell the viewer what is happening in a complicated scene that the viewer doesn't completely comprehend! Like when they screetch tyres - It makes people realise "Oh I see, that car is going rather fast, he must definetly be in a hurry"
... And of course bullet swoosh sounds "Oh my gosh, that bullet gor really close to that geezer! Gosh, just think if that had his him, it wouldn't have made a swoosh sound, but would have splattered blood everywhere! Phew, this film is really taxing on my mind"!
SEE!
