I created this thread to constantly update people about my new upcoming film Warsaw '39 (title subject to change)
I am going to have this film translated to polish and german (subtitled) with the help of some friends (ill dub it online when compression gets in the way. )
its a short about a jewish man who is running away from the ghetto he lived in. it starts off with two nazi's chasing him. it somehow goes from a church to a train station (yes with a real steam locomotive, i will change the signs on the train in post.)
anyway, i have 2 german uniforms on the way in the mail and i probably will buy a mp40 off ebay. also my shop teacher will be helping me create a replica k98
Ill keep you posted!!!

OKay, first of all, there's just one or two historical things we need to clear up. A) In 1939, the Nazis had only just conquered Warsaw and had only just started imposing regulations on Jews toward the years end. There were no ghettos in 1939 in Warsaw. Also, the Jews didnt really know the Nazis had it in for them when Poland was invaded... So you need to think more along the lines that he's running just because he doesnt want to be oppressed by the Nazis.
ahh but according to a wwii timeline, ghettos were starting to appear across poland, thoug it wasnt until 1940-42 that they were more common. still warsaw '40 doesnt sound as cool, but i may change the title anyway, so you wont know what year it is anyway.

Warsaw ghetto was created in 15 XI 1940 to be precise. "Warsaw 39 is not a good title. It's more like strategy computer game. Ask yourself what's the message of this film and base title on it. For polish people this title will be assosiateg only with defending of town.
I'm not sure how you want to pretend invaded polish town of 40s in Colorado but good luck.
If I can help you anyhow just say it. I can make for you some footage of places that are hardly changed from the war or have reconstructed (but only in PAL). Could you make photos of locatation you want to shoot?
I hope you won't mix-up last names (I don't know why in foregin movies Poles has always russian last names, russian - polish or serbian, czechs -hungarians etc).
This may be helpfull, I'll search for more.

Well I didn't mean the weather. Rather buildings, trees etc. But if It's abour jewish fugitive I think action should be mainly at night. If he's escaping by train better not use passenger car. Livestock would b better.
I'm waiting for photos and a script.

OK. Maybe it won't be full realism but I think it's great that someone look a bit further then D-Day at last
There's a lot of WWII movies in the forum. Who knows, maybe one day if I collect some money I'll try to shoot about 303 squadron. I count on guys from UK. I'd like to show that during WWII polish soldiers, spies and scientists had big share in ending the war (ex. breaking code of Enigma, polish mine detector (you're an nob, Ted Turner). Maybe it sounds weird, but not many people know these facts. I can understand it... we are small country on the border of civilized world but... some movie like U-571 or Enigma are tellin so damn lies. We can't win with Hollywood but if some of you, especially WWII maniacs, will know it I think it's worth to try.

He wants to make it realistic.
I agree, Santi, I think that someone here should focus on other aspects of the war... I also wish more people knew about the contributions of smaller nations like poland, Denmark, and Holland in WWII. THey may not have fought with armies, but they had excellent resistance like the dutch, gave us valuable infromation, like the polish (not to mention polish troops in england-see "A Bridge Too Far") and the intelligent scientists like Niels Bohr, who came from Denmark.

Yeah... Gene Hackman as gen.Sosabowski was pretty funny: "Shnoor...shnoor" ("sznur" means a thinner rope but not a string)DeadLogic wrote:not to mention polish troops in england-see "A Bridge Too Far"
We have or 5 minuts in "Battle of Britain" also - there was a proper polish dubbing.
BTW: in Africa allies uses Poles as radio operators (like Navajos) in tanks to confuse Germans but it failed - many german soldiers came from Silesia (the part of Poland where we always had problems with Germans) and they knew polish.

after this project i plan to make a film about stalingrad or the french resistance, yes i think wwii movies own all. (they can be the most powerful war movies, not to mention the most powerful movies out there) but anyways back on topic. yesterday i bought a big piece of oak to start my k98. costumes will probably ship tonight, and i plan to buy an airsoft mp40 tonight. after that, all i have to do is secure permissions from the rr people, the pd, and a church.

Do you have a roman-catholic gothic or baroque church in colorado?
Stalingrad? Whoa... where you gonna find the whole army? As for Resistance... I think that "Allo allo" exhausted this topic.
Friend of mine made a document about Home Army partisans an shoot some scenes of ambush in the forest. He borrow everything from the local museum (uniforms, original weapon etc).
I was thinking also about Polish-Soviet war in 1920. Did you know the director Merian C. Cooper (guy who made first King Kong movie) was member of american squadron that fight with ruskies? He spent 9 monts in soviet prison camp and has been decorated with Virtuti Militari (the highest polish military decoration).
