Audio filter?

Post by mercenary123 »

For my upcoming movie " 1.5 Seconds with a 9 Millie" I need to have a filtered gunshot and I need to filter a peice of dialogue. I need it to sound like a walkie-talkie or a radio. If I can't get something to filter it, then I'm lost. :(

Please help,

record a gunshot through a walkie talkie?
(I have this problem, too)
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

You don't need a parachute to go skydiving. You only need a parachute to go skydiving twice.

What programs do you have? On Premiere you can adjust audio levels to make it sound filtered, though I'm sure there are programs that will do it automatically.

Actaully you can just do this by turning up your voulmue pretty darn high and then recording your favrotie gunshout on a walkie talkie through your computer.. of course you may want to recrod the sound on your camera with a boom mic

It's difficult to help when we don't know what programs you are using. For example, in Ulead's Audio Editor you can achieve this by playing around with the quality-see if you can record in really shyt quality-which will hopefully give you fuzz like on AM radio...works for me

Just lower the quality first off, and see how that sounds. Then play around with some other settings.

Hmm, well, what if I created some white noise in Audacity and then put the voice overs and gunshot on another audio track? I'll this idea now.

EDIT:

I tried this out, and it works pretty well.

use an EQ, most audio programs have them, and start by removing most of the bass (lows). If you've got any distortion guitar effects/plug-ins, they create excellent radio sounding sounds, just go easy on the distortion though or you can't make out the actual sound.

When I got Vegas 5 it came with a program called "ACID 4.0" which can be bought seperatly. Its a music mixing program that you can make sfx and music sound fuzzy and all that other junk. Putting money into it would pointless though when (like Luteleigh said) you could easily just adjust sound on the editing system. :) Just an idea.

I use Adobe Audition. It's great how it can also work within Premiere!

Try using acid xpress. Not anything like the real acid, or sound programs such as Sound Sorge or Audition, but it may do the job...

My father came up with the complete Adobe collection for me over the past few years. Lords knows how he got it all, though people at his work I'm guessing. All three dozen or so programs of them. The digital video/audio programs are the ones I really only use though.

You can achieve a Telephone type sound by removing all frequencies below and above around 5khz on a graphic eq.
Take your normal recorded effect and eq it in this way and you will have achieved what you are asking.
