For the past like 5 or 6 months...

Post by mercenary123 »

...every time I get on the internet, then a while later I try to exit internet explorer, it makes some kinda beep, and won't let me exit the internet unless I push Ctrl+Alt+Delete and continously push end task, then wait a while and push end now a buncha times. How can I fix this problem with out restoring it back to 6 months ago?

Try this...

1. Defragement your HD
2. Run Antivirus
3. Download adAware and run it to get rif of spyware

If this doesn't help, you probably have corrupt files, in whcih case you might need to restore windows. If you have the Norton Utilities suit, you could always run win doctor whcih will eliminate some windows problems, but not all.

A combination of Adaware, and spybot search and destroy is the most effective anti adware combo I have found yet, then follow it up with an install of javacools spyware blaster to block nasty ActiveX controls. All these products as well as your antivirus, should be updated weekley at the longest and run daily to keep it clean. Make sure ALL detection utilities are updated, and set a scheduled task to run a full scan at a time when the machine won't be in use. At work, my antivirus server checks for updates at 1AM every day, and the clients contact the server between 3AM and 5AM to check for the latest update. Oftentimes there will be three and sometimes more new virus definition files in a weeks time as new viruses are discovered....

Norton tracks down virii, not adware... that's why you need a combination of tools to get it all nice and shiny again...

usually i use the updated ad-aware, norton, and thats it. I dont want anything on my HD, next thing u know it will think a windows file is adaware, delete it and boom, bye bye comp. or something.

that is what happened to me exactly. We had to completly reformat the hard drive because our antivirus software deleted some minor part of Windows

Usually when something like that happens, the virus was a relatively new file infector which attatched itself to a valid file. A heuristic scan found the virus, but since it was relatively new, there was no 'cleaning' routine available int he antivirus for that specific virus or strain. If the AV software is set to delete unfixable files, then you defintiely have aproblem. Another reason it is so iportant to keep AV software updated...
