Question on specific mic plz help

I have dicided use a minidisc to record sound for my DV shoot, but ive never used minidisc before. I have a recorder, but do you need a special software and cable to import into the computer as audio files?? will a mac work for import or do i need pc?

And, most importantly, I already have a Sony Cardioid F-VX300 microphone. Does this have enough range to record good, high quality sound on minidisc at 3 metres at least?

Please, please give me some tips, any reply is appriciated.
