Which CPU is right for me?
- I don't play any games
- I don't do CGI work
- I use computer for mostly editing, and graphic design
Either amd 64 or pentium 4. I was going to get an amd 64, but I heard the improvments were mostly for gamers and animators. So Im kind of stumped on what to get.

correction, its g4techtv now...and Go with intel, not only are they fast, but they dont overheat, and u dont need to over clock them cause they work so good already.John Groshko wrote:I watch TechTV alot, and they always say that AMD's are better than Intels at basically everything. And the're cheaper too. I would go with the AMD.

MY AMD has never overheated,. Does the CPU get hot, yes, but overheat, no. As far as i know AMD has corrected the overheating problem.
EDIT
I just read review that tested the p4 and AMD64 (of the same speed) head to head, and the guy who compared them said the performed very similarly, but he would go with the AMD since it costs half of what the p4 costs.

oooh... this is very tricky.
The last years, AMD has proven to be able to enhance its processors so that they don't have that enormous instability and (radio frequency-)noise generation AND sensitivity (earlier AMD's had to be placed 1 meter from the nearest radio and 2,5 meters from the nearest babyphone (radio transmitter) to work without too many errors.
Intel had way better processors, HAD, and now both intel and amd prove to have, in normal situations, equally good working processors. If you're a 3ds max user who'd go for the raw processing power, Intel's your man (even AMD 64's can't compare to intel's HT-prescotts in 3ds max and such programs speed). If you're somebody who frequently and extensively runs 'normal' programs (like ms works-programs etcetera), AMD is certainly your man. If you do both or neither, well, go for the processor with the best price for what it does, so up to 2800 MHz (or AMD-equivalent) get a pentium 4 or p4HT, higher clock frequencies (or similar prestation clock frequencies), get an AMD.
