sorta off topic pyrotechnic

Post by DrakeHwk »

Well ive got a question about pyrotechnic stuff... But its not really having to do with movies..
A paintball scenario id like to go to allows "cold burning smoke" now i was unaware there was more than 1 type of smoke (the stuff at the fireworks stores).... anyone got any clue what this "cold burning smoke" is? or how to get it? or how its different from what im assuming is called "hot burning smoke"
thanks

I am guessing that it refers to the material that is producing the smoke or fog.

I think they probably mean that you can use either a fogger or a hazer to dump smoke on the paintball field. You can rent Roscoe foggers from theatre rental houses, and there's tons of theatre in Chicago. If you feel like owning a fogger, I've seen light duty ones in mall stores like Spencer gifts for about $40. They wouldn't really fill a big outdoor field though.

as you can see on the image, a little bit (i'm talking about 5 grams) can easely fill up a hughe room

I have ade them before. Yeah just go to the chemist probably over there for the chemicals.

A little warning though. It does take a lot of heat energy to light them and they do burn VERY hot!!!;)

grant, you've got such an experience with explosions and stuff (udds armagedon, ...)
can you make your own fuse, and how do you do that?

i've tried some homemade electric fuses (9v battery, 2 wires and between the wires some steelwool), but they don't work quiet well :(

Potassium nitrate / Saltpetre / (KNO3) is used a lot for smoke bombs etc. It is not legal to buy in England I dont think... Ive been looking for it for a long time, but it is used to make bombs, so ur not allowed it... :( Mainley if you could get it i would say it would probably be in some garden place - Pottasium nitrate is used for many plant sort o' things :P

The very basic way of making a fuse is a simple party sparkler. This cannot be exactly timed though. I have successfully used a small light bulb as a fuse though. Carefully remove the glass from a small light globe and use the intact filament as the fuse in black powder of what ever you want to ignite. A small battery will work a charm as a power supply.

Just use a really small globe but.

For some interesting fun file a small hole with a traingular file into the surface of a normal household lightbulb and fill it to the limanent with the fuel that you want to set off (blackpowder, sparkler powder, petrol etc). Plug the bulb into the socket turn the power on and BANG.
Can be down remotely easily using an extension cord.

I would not recommend this but i have hypothetically seen this done as a pratical joke on a person's doorway light.

But this is a highly dangerous action and pyro to build and as i have said in the past numerous times. Take extreme care and experiment:o

the lightbulb one - I saw it used with a gas, very light, so when it was knocked on, it exploded, then rose to the ceiling and exploded outwards, looked very cool, but just as Grant said, either take extreme caution, or just dont do it, its very dangerous and will most probably burn down ur house :P

Hell yeah. As i said i would do it with an extension cord and bulb connection from a safe distance :D

I have heard of this technique being used for assassination purposes

I don't know about the inferno movie, but I know it was used in a movie called "The Soldier" that came out in 1982. It was indeed an assasination device in that flick - the killer filled the lightbulb with gasoline mixed with liquid soap to make a poor-man's napalm.

Is that all that napalm is?
Anyway, If its' not to late, I'd like to put my two cents in about the paintball thing we were talking about before. My idea is, if its an indoor arena, do what my local laser tag company does, go Mission Impossible mode and stick a fogger in the vents
