Showing films in a theatre
I was wondering how I could show my film at a theatre during the summer. What would be the best way do to this. Go to a film festival. Go to a drive inn. Or would some normal theatres take film. If none of these are possible with out film. How and where do I get this done to my movie. Also how $$$$$$$$.
Yeah, I started small, started showing people they showed other people then I got a little brave asked some local places - not theaters just local areas that have this movie festivels where they show profesinall movies in themes (Profesinall meaning ones that were in theaters) I asked if they would show my films, at first they thought it was some joke but after showing some stuff they agreed it was good enough quaility, I have yet to get into a real theater and doubt I will becuase my actors are only 14-15 as am I meaning it dosn't look as profesinall as I could make it look if I had actors..

Try renting a theater. We have a theater here that shows movies for $2, but they are second run movies (meaning this theater is JUSt now showing Shrek 2). The theater can be rented for events ie birthday parties, conventions, etc for a minimum price (a few hundred bucks--$20 to be exact)
See if you have a theater like that in your neighborhood somewhere, rent it and do some adbvertising to get people to see the movie.

Our local cinema will show our feature film (when we've made it) & split the profits 50-50,
but we need to get the film rated by the BBFC first & that costs a couple of grand.
We know this because we had a meeting with the cinema & that's what they said.

And where would Spielberg be today if he had said that at your age...

Which film would this be? That sucks that it costs a couple of grand to get it rated though, but if the productions at a high cost, it's probably worth it to get it seen and make profits off of it at a theater..Mushiman wrote:Our local cinema will show our feature film (when we've made it) & split the profits 50-50,

if you ARE going to do that, be sure to have a HUGE publicity campaign planned.
I guess the best would be to put posters around the city, and if there is any channel with a "popular" (that would be interested in this) then make a really good trailer, if they played it and left the viewers wondering what is that, they may actually go and see it.
Im not sure about this, but I think that the best would be to ONLY show the Trailer, no inteviews (unless you guys really look Pro) cause then people will think it is amateur stuff.
well, im no publicist, but those are my suggestions

I'm doing it
I've finishing my hour long comedy and I will be screening it in a theater here in Portland, OR. It'll cost me around $200-$300 for the rental then I'll charge people like $3 to get it and if I get at least 100 people then I can break even. Though the theater I'm looking at holds over 400 and I'm going to try to fill it up. The trick is to find a theater that has digital projection. There are two independent theaters in my town that show lots of arthouse and independent features so they're geared towards it. You can't just go to any theater and rent it out, unless you have a 35mm print. Now be prepared for a bit of a shock when blowing up your film to theater size. I shoot with several XL1s and it looks decent.
It's our feature film that Ian's been writing. We're going to try & shoot it next year. It's got a cool story & is very filmable.I3lade203 wrote:Which film would this be? Steve, if your going to do an orginal film you can make some serious cash off, it's not worth it to spend the extra bit to get it rated?
