External Mics
Im looking at buying a microphone for my Sony camcorder. What would be better to use, a mono microphone or a stereo microphone?
Personally I prefer Mono. Using a stereo to 2- monop Y cable allows you to actually use two mics, one left track one right track. Just picked up the Sennheiser MKE-300 Shotgun for $149 from B&H - http://www.bhphoto.com works pretty well

Using mono mics, and the stereo to mon y cable, allows you to use two audio sources, one to the left channel and one to the right channel. So you can use two mics. We've used two wireles lavs, or a shotgun on cam and an omni stick on a pole, or the shotgun and a lav... lots of flexibility. With a stereo mic, you are limited to one audio source...

And if you aren't happy with the 2 intertwined sounds, is it possible to totally remove the sound from one of the two tracks in Audition or something similar?
How would you use two audio sources? During an interview say, one mic in front of the interviewer and one in front of the interviewee, or during a movie shoot, one mic by the actors and on somewhere capturing ambient noise?
