Kung-fu or something like that

Post by Twabi2 »

Ok,
i'm writing a scenario for my next film.
I want some cool fight-scenes, so i thougt kung-fu would be great for that.
But i think it's a litlle exspensive to train my actor.
He does gym, so he's very supple.
Anyone knows a site or a book.... where you can see easy moves?
It's just for inspiration, i don't want my actor to do somersault s and stuff...

My friend from personal experience i would at least make your friend take a few free introductory lessons at a Martial Arts club to get the feel for some techniques and the motion of combat.
Then work on a fight scene that is very basic and rehearsed. Keep the fight to an easy few punches and easily achieved kicks.
Exeriment with various camera angles and maybe speed up the fight in editing just a little. Under normal camera speed too much acceleration in the footage will be clearly noticable.
Get out in the backyard and have fun just experimenting with techniques and the angles you could use to give the impression if contact and distance. Also get used to the feel of getting hit and how to hit lightly and have the actor pretending to take a full body shot.

There is no real easy way here my friend:D

I am not a big fan of kung fu movies i personnaly am so sick of them and would be happy if i never saw another. i think it is really cool how the kinda fight sequences they had in bourn idintety i like stuff that i dont see alot of and cia style fighting is still very entertaining to me. i dot want to completly shoot down your idea i just think you should maybe try something fresh
dont build hype around movies it only makes them suck more!

the style is hard to explain and i dont really have pictures you should probably check out the movie. The way they fight in that movie i found way more entertaining then any other fight sequences i have ever seen. I think you should watch and see if it fits in with your story line and if it does try that kind of fighting style. by fresh i ment something that hasnt allready been played out. like bullet time everyone is sick of it by now so you would want to stay away from it. i guess i am just trying to say dont use ideas that have been used by a million other movies so then even if yours sucks people will like it because they have nothing to compare it to.

Coming from a military and Martial Arts hand to hand combat past.

What is CIA style fighting???

For the truth be that no soldier/combat operative would basically kick above hip height in a true encounter. Also most combat you would see would be grappling that is very messy and boring to watch in parts!

In bourne identity he used a combination of kickboxing, tae kwon do, and some hand to hand "grab techniques"

It's nothing "new" or "fresh". It's just a different fight sequence.

Besides, it's his project. I think if he wants to do it, he can bloody well do whatever he pleases. If you don't like it, don't watch it. It's his creation, not yours.

I know this project is suposedly cancelled, but I'd recommend that if anyone wants to try any martial arts sequences in their films that they hire (conjol, seduce, bribe, etc) someone proficient in some type of MA, preferably an instructor, to choreograph a fight scene. Using actual martial artists as doubles is also a good idea.

Exactly as i stated earlier. Experience shows.
But also yes do the fight scene. Your work and ideas are yours and all experience is good experience!

Sorry about the double post. Do no tknow how that happened?

I like the fact of using people on the know. Makes life and the shoot easier.

Can't wait to see the results:D

Here's the URL of my Master's web-site! Wing Chun is a form of Kung-Fu, aimed for close-quarters combat! By the way, Kung-Fu is supposed to be for defensive fighting, not offensive fighting!

The website has some cool video clips, that you can look at, showing how the moves are made. They're quite easy to duplicate, if you practise for a good few years!

You can meet me at the Wimbledon venue on Thursday nights!
