Animated Avatars

Post by Matt »

How do you guys make animated avatars from your video clips?

I assume they are animated GIFs.

Someone at work was asking about it for some reason and thought "I know just the place to ask" ...

Truggy, you seem clued up on this sort of thing ?

Matt, you can do this in Corel PhotoPAINT, and probably photoshop as well.

Import an AVI file re-sample it, then export the "movie" as a GIF. Alternatively, you can import the frames into Corel RAVE and save as a flash animation!

Cheers. Someone also pointed out you can use Paintshop Pro Animation studio as that allows you to import AVI and save as GIF.

if you wanna make animated .GIF's really cheap (idano how much it costs and i'm too lazy to google) use Ulead GIF animator (preferably 4.0 because 5.0 has some major screwups and we-want-to-make-it-user-friendly-so-kick-out-the-good-stuff).
I use it for me anigifs, i make the anigif videos in cg infinity (also ulead)/3dsmax

uhm I really don't know what size you are talking of; and how many seconds/frames. I've got a 256-color non-destructive compressed anigif of 38 frames 96x96 pixels that is 66189 bytes (64 KB). Compressed to 32-color (maximum that looks well) it's 22019 bytes (20 KB). So if you want to make a anigif with about these dimensions (I presume you want to make a gif that fits), make one that can handle low-color (very few individual colors needed, preferably 32 or less), and has max. 25 frames. That should look good and won't be much larger than 5 kb. Oh, and you can host your own pic, with no real size limit (but for our 56k lovers, 30 kb is the limit).
