Use video-games to get sound-effects.
I've recently used the game "Ghost Recon", to attain some pretty nice sounding gun-fre sounds. Being able to control your rate-of-fire, and allowing yourself the choice of fire-arm, really made the sound-effects in my latest movie stand-out.
Does anybody else, know of any other great games, that would be good for recording sound from?

If you got a PS2, you have many choices. I have Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, The Getaway, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, SOCOM US Navy Seals, and Dead To Rights. I really like the gun shot sounds in those games. So I would perfer them. I still need to buy a microphone for my computer to record sounds from my video games. I was thinking about that one day and thought it was a stupid idea. But now that you've done it, I'll try it out.

Don't use a microphone.
To get the sound of of your game system, use a "2-ch stero-to-miniplug" cable, and attach your game sysytem directlly to your computer.

Any Electronic store should sell them.
You can pick one up a basically any electronics store.
It is a cable that has; two stereo plugs (red and white) at one end, and a computer-mic plug-in at the other end.

PC Video games
Great topic.
Many PC video games have sounds that are readily extracted as WAV or MP3 files. What's really cool is that this is true of the downloadable demos as well. (Though the demos typically have a subset of all the sounds you coud get from buying the game.)
For Star Wars, Jedi Outcast is a perfect place to start.
After installing the game, locate a file called "assets0.pk3".
This file can be expanded with PkZip or WinZip.
BTW, this file is also LOADED with fantasic SW textures for 3D CGI work.
For army weapons, the Tom Clancy Rouge Spear games are perfect. Once the games are installed, the sounds are not even compressed or hidden. There are over 1000 sounds including voices, music, foley, and, of course, GUNS. Just find the game directory, and look under data\sound.
Have fun!
