1 gig ram

I have considered upgrading completely, but this system works so nicely as it is!

Make sure to turn off all those start-up programs too. I reduced my memory usage from 300meg to 150meg and now it runs a whole lot faster. Most of them aren't needed to run windows and some you will probably never touch!

you pimps... I use 2 computers, an old and a new one, both work reasonably well but the old one can't edit film real-time:
Old: PIII 900 Mhz 133 MHz FSB with 256 MB SDRAM
100 GB hdd
tvtuner w/captureunit
8xusb (hihi), tvout on GF 2 mx400 w/32 MB
5.1 surround w/o subwoofer (:(), 17" CRT
wxppro
New: laptop 3.06 GHz with 512 MB 533 MHz DDRRAM (should be 1-1,5 GB but my parents won't cooperate)
60 GB hdd, tvcapture/tunercard, firewire, 4xusb, dvd+R, -R, +RW, -RW, CDRW-combi (8x8x4x4x16x8x12x32)<-love to do that, 64 MB GFFX 5350, 15"tft, wxphome soon to be pro.
There's no chance of overclocking either of the two as the 900 MHz is too old and doesn't have the proper bus speed to overclock and actually gain any speed, the 3.06 GHz laptop can't bear the heat (gets >50C idle) and I don't need more clock speed, just need more ram and hdd.
Tip: the old one is really fast because of a few things:
- get rid of those useless services (www.blackviper.com may help, but bear in mind that you DO need those firewire etc. services)
- keep your registry clean (just a regcleaner doesn't help too well, f*** around in the registry yourself too)
- I'll just skip the RAM story, it's outdated
- you don't know how many webbugs, adware and other s*** you've got and what's keeping your computer slow. My old computer has 6 partitions, each with its own independent copy of windows xp, and the startup times varied from 30 to 200 seconds with practically the same software starting everywhere. When I checked the registry for stuff starting up with common programs and such, I saw I had a whole bunch of adware etc. that f*** up my progs. And i've got an adbuster, virusscanner and 2 firewalls that I keep updated!!

that reminds me of my old laptop, it wasnt connected to the internet or anything (so no chance of adware), but i messed with the registry so much it got all slow everytime i did. also i told my friend how to change the name of the recylce bin in regedit and he put in the wrong number or something and was never able to boot up again. lolkeep your registry clean (just a regcleaner doesn't help too well, f*** around in the registry yourself too)

Pimps, eh? Well, I use 3 computers total for projects. One for image processing, one for video editing, and the latest one strictly for audio recordings. That is well over terabyte in HD space. PLUS, I have a laptop for elsewhere compositions. So HAH! Who's a pimp now!?ssj3gohan wrote:you pimps... I use 2 computers...

I built my computer last summer with a 3.06 P4 and overclocked it to 3.66 when I got a watercooling system. It's also dead silent because there is only one fan running in there most of the time. I have 8 fans installed though. I use a radeon 9800 pro with 2 gigs of pc3200 dual channel corsair memory. 8x dvd burner, 250 gigs of storage, and 36 gig raptor drive. Logitech z-680 speakers (500 watts). I use it mostly for gaming though becuase I use my laptop for editing (safer). all on a Dfi pro875B motherboard.
