Post by Gyro »

I got a new dvd/burner drive the other day and its being kinda weird. For some reason it can read empty discs and burn them, but when i put in a normal disc (video game, music cd, dvd, etc) it doesnt work, whats going on with this?

Sounds like a driver fault to me. See if you can get an updated driver from the manufacturer, or even from Microsoft's Update site. Otherwise, re-install the existing driver.

The only thing I can think of that could be at fault from a hardware perspective is that the laser is mis-aligned, therefore reading it's own written data, and not other data CDs or DVDs. If it's new, see if you can return it for a replacement to play on the safe side.

yeah check drivers and then check on the net for any hardware incompatibility issues with what you have. Then if possible plug it into another PC and install it and see if the problem exists there also
