Fire... bad idea?

Post by DoDGe »

Hey, I was just wondering...

I have quite a big blow up swimming pool, quite strong, do you think if i could get hold of some sort of fireproof clothing and light myself, for a movie, then jump in the swimming pool after cutting the scene, it would be a good idea?

No it's not a good idea... I mean in theory it's a fantastic idea and I'd applaud any of you guys who complete it successfully! But I think it's more than a case of just setting yourself on fire and diving in to water...

I mean fireproof clothing or not, there's still nothing to protect you from the heat.

Definitely would not recommend that. No matter how hard you try or plan it only takes seconds to give yourself serious burns.

This is one case where CG is going to be much better. Real fire would look more realistic .... but then so would the skin peeling off your bones !

No do not do it without a lot of thougth and preparation.

FIRSTLY.......Only do it if you are prepared for any medical consequences that may occur. ie major burns etc.

SECONDLY.....Cover up as much as you can and with as many layers as you can of non-flammable clothing. Head-to-toe!!!

Now practise the jump without the fire first and be confident in your actions as once you are lit there is no easy way out!!!

Now once again consider the dangers and results of the stunt gone wrong. Consider the short term possibilities here and life long.

If you have accepted theses once again and your family and loved ones have them do the stunt. Have as much of a fire crew there as possible with extinguishes if possible that fight the accelerant!!!

BUT I DO HAVE TO SAY>>

FIRE IS VERY DANGEROUS
FIRE IS UNFORGIVING
AND FIRE WILL EASILY CAUSE YOUR SKIN TO BURN AND BOIL!!!

damn... ah well, i think it might be a bad idea then, just its easy enough spraying aerosol over your arm, then lighting it, then getting that out in water.
I think ill leave it for now, probably not do it, but if I do, ill remember to fill up the swimming pool :P

You'd probably be ok using something like aerosol ... its just if it did go wrong the consequences would be very bad.

IF you did do it just make sure you've got a big tub of water and a few mates with buckets so they can drown you with water at a moments notice. In this case safety outways footage by a million to one :)

I say go for it. ive been doin this stuff all my life and so have come up with one conclution......... who cares about the concequences when its on camera. yea you will probably have to eat through a straw for the rest of your life, but when your not doing so u and friends can share countless laughs and jokes while watching re-runs. if u want a gud effect i diped a balaclarver in parafin the other day and got half way down my garden wearing it while on fire before my hair got set alight and there was not a swimming pool in sight. And thus i say go for it old chap and be sure to inform me of the halirus prevailings.:P:P:P

DO NOT WEAR SYNTHETIC CLOTHES when doing your crazy stunt! They'll flash into flame within seconds, and melt into your skin causing unimaginably bad burns! Anyone remember back in the late 80's on That's Life, with Esther Rantzen (Showing my age!), when they did a bit about shell-suits (And their wearers) going up in smoke at bonfires?

Very true CamClub. Synthetic will usually burn fierce and fast. It will melt to your skin and Good woolen and pure cotton layers is fine

What i did for my film (The Ghost of Burning Fire), was filmed a close up of a camp film, in a controlled area, the filmed close ups of the character's face and the character going ahhh! etc. Then i put the two shots over the top of each other and that turned out pretty cool.
