New SFX site

Post by santi »

Hi there,

I'm a huge fan of SFX from Poland and I have created my own site about effects and amateur moviemaking.
Well, there's one little problem - the whole stuff is in polish. I was thinking about creating english version (SFX part only) so I'd like to ask you to take a look at my site and tell if you'd be interested in some of my tutorials (some of them you may know from english SFX sites but most of them are my own work) Forget about language for a moment: there's a lot of images and few mpg clips.

(direct link to effects)

(sorry for my english, I'm still working on it)

Hey there nice effects! Yeah, english would be good, I'd love to read the site, epecially since it looks so interesting. I know a few things in Polish, but not nearly enough to even begin to understand it. lol :D

I wonder what kind of words :)

Well, I'm thinking very serious about translating these tutotorials. There's more of them under constrution.
I discovered a solution how to make lightsaber in AE without spending hours in keframing. Sadly - it doesn't work well with DV format :(

Anyway: thanks for your opinions guys. If one of this tutoriali look specialy interesting let me know so I'll translate it first.

BTW Grant: I saw UDDS. MASTERPIECE!:D (but the quality.....:()

I'll be gratefull for every word of constructive critcism and sugestions. If you found any mistakes or errors - please let me know. My english is still far away from perfection.

Thanks:) That's what I needed!

Question: is there any sense in makin JAFLT (Just Another F***g Lightsaber Tutorial) ?

I have few good ideas about FX from Matrix, X-Men,(very popular on this forum :) AFAIK) Predator and Terminator 2 but they are "under construction" - I don't have footage good enough to make the screen shots.

Your site is great ! Translate everything, even the light sabre tutorial. As Grant said, all tutorials are useful even if you have seen the effects done before.

Keep up the good work.

Thank you guys. I'm begining to love this place.

My new light sabre tutorial I'll make in english first. :) You should like it (if you had a good lighting equipment and at least DV (3CCD recomended). I works quite good in close angles and if the sabre doesn't move to fast.

And here's another clip: http://sfx.internetdsl.pl/video/liquid_man.mpg

:( Not my fault. The server i provided by TPSA - Polish monopolist in telecomunication. This really sucks, but now I have no choice 'cause I don't have to pay for this. Maybe I'll create a mirror on some free server.

I think it's possible (in theory) to do but I need a little time for tests. I promise to work on it.

EDIT:

I have it in 720 x 480 size in Quicktime format and in WMV format. But the file sizes are pretty big.
Where can I host it?

No problem. As I said: I love this kind of challenges and this is one of my favorites effects.
Now I'm also workin' on few Terminator effects (at least one can be done in Premiere and Photoshop). The list of effects to describe is quite long (even much more then on polish version site)

EDIT:

XeFX309, I hope you like it:

Thanks a lot, looks great. I'll be sure to try it out and use it in upcoming movies that I do make. Also, I noticed the little mention about me, lol thanks.

One question though, I thought I remembered a little mention in the After Affects tutorials that you don't need a greenscreen, is there a way around that in this one also? If not, it doesn't matter, it's all good. lol

Thanks!

FX business requires a little invention, man :) Read those hints in the AE tutorial.
-shoot an actor in front of bright wall but use only the strong background light. You need the darkest silhouette as it's possible.
- in AP remove colors (BLACK & WHITE filter), INVERT and increase the contrast using LEVELS filter until you get pure black and white matte.

Looks good! I cant read polish though lol ill check it out when more is translated I have a basic idea of what it says becuase i know how to do the effects but i cant see how you explained it since its not in english lol- Only other comment i have is the images take forever to load for some reason
EDIT: You forgot to translate this part:
I wreszcie finał.
just thought id point out you missed a piece :p
