Um, okay, Matt is all that padding there in case it falls off, or clips an oncomming car?

Correct ! Plus it was a good way of securing the camera without bolting it down. This helped kill any vibration. The easiest way of keeping the camera in place was to surround it with car sponges, cut to fit :)

It did also mean that if the box did fall off the camera was encased in sponge and wood giving it a slightly increased chance of survival. Due to its excellent design it never left the car once :)

So although it looked fairly weird it did the trick !

Well I disagree with Matt. I made something very similar to this last year, except with out the 'sponges on the outside ' I found that ANY movement of the box led to very shakey video. You want the case to be SOLID and not move a MILIMETER.

I did it with out the sponges and it worked perfectly. Maybe somehow I can post a link to the video....

EDIT:

I have it in 720 x 480 size in Quicktime format and in WMV format. But the file sizes are pretty big.
Where can I host it?

I found it cheaper to use the 'ol 'sticking my bloody arm out of a window' camera mount technique... Okay, not really... but I plan on making a camera mount like Matt's in the near future. This site is awesome.
