If you have played Medal of Honor as compared to Call of Duty there is no comparison in Sound effects. Medal of honor blows it away with the sound effects which I personally think helps alot in making it a much better game too, thus brings up the question- how important are sound effects in movies? VERY i do say, but id like to hear some opinions.

I couldnt agree more! Everyone sees those low budget local commercials and just imagine that time of sound and imaging. It would ruin the entire movie. shakira

sound effects are a very important thing in movies, no matter what type of movie your'e making.....
i really like the sound effects in kill bill (old school kung-fu sounds)!!
In movies about war, sound effects are crucial to the movie if you want to make it really dramatic!

Haha, that is one way of putting it. Sound effects are a neccesity for modern filmmaking/gaming. You need both believable video and audio for it to be complete. Gotta love today's entertainment!

That is all too true. Most people way overlook the audio. It is just as important as the video.

audio at times is a distinct character itsels. What would JAWS have been without the great soundtrack?

Star Wars would have been a dud if there hadn't been a spectacular soundtrack as well.

in JAWS what we knew of the shark for most of the movie was only the soundtrack, that is what made the film and music so clever

Without John Williams, I think Speilberg wouldn't have done as good as he did with Jaws.

Well, I love many of the old Charlie Chaplin movies, and the soundtrack consists of a piano playing.
The Jaws theme is a rip from the New World Symphony written by Dvorák.

The silent era was brilliant for music as it had to portray the dialogue and mood so intensely

Personally to me Spearhead had the best sfx.

MOH has the best music and sound effects definitely! I think CoD is a better game, but I will not discuss it here:)

Sound MAKES the film in my opinion. Remove all your sound, apart from natural sounds and voices, and the film looks like a backyard job, rather than some of the great standards being produced here.
The
Udds Armageddon Making Of Special has a section on how much the sound changes a scene, how much life it can breath into something previously a bit bland.

I agree, sound does make the film. Thats why when all they had was radio and not tv, stuff like "The Lone Ranger" was so popular!

I would say it's more like 70 percent.

lol, it goes like this
80% of a movie is sound
10% is the acting
5% is the special effects
4.5% is the editing
and 0.5% is who directed it
