Now granted; they kind of go against the esthetic of this forum in that they are not free, but they ARE cheap.
They have a phenomenal library of SFX, searchable with a database, and you can check out sounds with a very low res download. If you like what you hear, you can download as many or as few sounds as you need, at CD resolution for a nominal fee. It's not for every day, but it's great when you need that Rhino herd stampeding (I kid you not, I needed that once).
