Export To Tape - Dropped Frames

Post by mark_essex_87 »

I'm transferring my edited movie back to my camera - well trying to - but i can only use windows movie maker 2 to do it because in Premiere the export to tape option is disabled?! - i'm getting so many dropped frames etc and skipping - which is not on the video on my computer i would like to add - is there a way to correct this?

Are you exporting out fire wire to a DV Cam? If Premiere sees a DV device it should have export to tape enabled. As far as I know Premiere can only export to tape to a DV device. If you are dumping out through a cap card with analog output to an analog format recorder, then dropped freames would not be too surprising. As always, make sure during the video operation that all background processes on the PC are stopped. If you are using MM2 I would assume you are running XP. Run MSConfig from the run dialog and turn odff everything you don't need which starts at startup. If connected to a network, or even a broadband modem, disable the NIC for the video operation, even if you aren't using the connection, the NIC does some communication. UNplugging the cable will not stop the attempts, you must disable the device. Since you are now isolated from any other PCs and not running any other apps, it is relatively safe to exit your antivirus program. AV software can use a fairly large amount of system resources. MSConfig can probably be used to disable the AV software at startup... then Shutdown the machine ( Shutdown, not restart.. this makes sure the RAM gets reinitialized fully) Start the machine, do your video thing, then run MSConfig and turn back on anything you need/want for other use and reboot to restart those proggies. Don't forget to enable the NIC :)

im going out through firewire - i think premiere doesnt notice the cam is connected because i didnt actually install the drivers... ok so my fault there! - think iv got it sorted now though.. i just closed virtually every app running such as mcafee, zonealarm etc.. (as you pointed out) and it worked better - was also monitoring cpu usage and optimized ram through dRAMatic. :)
