To get the video into the computer, it sounds like you'll need to buy a TV/capture card. Simply link it up to the camera's A/V sockets (They are usually colour coded for Audio and Video), and plug the other end into the computer's capture card.
You then need some editing software to chop the video up for editing. Windows XP comes with Windows Moviemaker - if you have this, download the free MM2 upgrade from Microsoft!
