What's your data rate?

Post by I J Walton »

Howdy, a quick questions here. I'm not sure if DV captured onto a computer has a fixed data rate or not (or if it varies on different computers).

Can everyone here write down the data rates of their DV avi's, please.

Thanks. :)

Last capture I got about 3.6 Mbits/s, but mine varies as well. I think it just depends on your system usage, hard drive fragmentation at the time of capture, and the RPM's of your HD. I recently had a problem with this as well, as mine was only capturing at 16 fps. When I captured again a few hours later, it was up to 26. Go figure, sometimes DV capture is screwed up.

It isn't fixed. It varies, computer to computer, camcorder to camcorder, depending on your footage and compression (if any).

This is why I go on about RAID0 drive systems- you'll find that the data transfer rate will shoot up with a RAID system. Also, now I see they're putting it onto Serial ATA drive systems, and it's becomming standard on a lot of motherboards!!! Awesome!
