AC3/DD on VCD

Post by blade »

Is it possible to have a 5.1 (or even Dolby Surround) soundtrack on VCD or SVCD?

A VCD can only hold a stereo soundtrack.

More info from :

VCDHelp VCD Info

A SVCD usually only stores a stereo soundtrack but can hold an MPEG2 Multichannel (5.1) soundtrack. Only certain equipment plays this format.

Producing a 5.1 sound track

To produce a 5.1 sound track you can use Stienberg Cubase SX. It retails for £499 but you can find to download. It only works with Windows 2000/XP.

D'ya know that if you officially add 5.1 Surround to a product you have to buy a license from Dolby or DTS? And they add a huge amount to the budget of a feature film, anything from £100,000 onwards...

never knew that...But I'm sure it only goed for FEATURE FILMS, because they wouldn't have all these software programs to encode it if you had to buy a liscense first. And even if there is a license involved, they probably have a non-commercial liscense built right into the software, thats probably why the programs cost so much...
