Alright, I was wondering out of these two cameras would be a better choice. Theyre both on sale. What i'm looking for is a good camera to make movies and edit them with with Windows Movie Maker. I dont have much fancy equipment, and id mostly be shooting around my house and other peoples houses and outside, so i was wondering what would be better for what i needed. Thanks. i have the jvc grdv700 - the one under the 800 obviously - and have found it to be pretty good! the optical zoom doesnt really matter if you arent going to be filming from long distances - for some reason nearly all jvc's only have a 10x optical zoom.

Check for more details about both rigs. A couple of things to look for
1) Not just manual focus, but also manual white balance and manula iris(exposure)
2) Some manual shutter settings... (1/60 in the US will allow you to film monitors/TVs without the annoying line running thru it on video)
3) Battery life
4) Quality of the viewfinder, not just the LCD screen ( viewfinder will extend battery life if you use that as opposed to the LCD )
5) MIC jack, to allow input from an external mic for better sound. Most on cam mics are designed for the person behind the cam to narate the scene, not designed for recording dialog or audio at any kind of distance.
As an aside, the CCD in the JVC has 540 lines of resolution as opposed to 500 on the Canon...
