Capturing Analog problems
Hi, I'm a complete novice at film making. I am using a canon 8mm camera and a win tv card to capture. What is the optimum resolution i should record at so that i get the best quality but with out the horizontal lines that appear through the edges of things that are moving? Any other tips would be great too. Cheers.
Optimum resolution would be 720x576, although I'm not sure a Win TV card will be able to capture smoothly at that rate. Basically anything under 352x288 is a no-no if you want to put stuff back on TV.
And there's a reason for those lines, they stand out on a computer monitor but on a TV they give the illusion of 50 frames per second instead of 25. If you look closely at a moving object on a TV you can just about notice them, sometimes...
If your vertical resolution is lowered to 288 (usually captured at 360x288 or 352x288 resolutions) then the lines should disappear, but you loose half your resolution.
